Micromedex Healthcare Series & CareNotes

Through the generosity of Thomson Reuters, Wayne State University now has an educational license to Micromedex ( for instructional programs for students and faculty in the health sciences. This web based resource also has content from Thomson Clinical Expert for your PDA.

At the request of Thomson Reuters, access to Micromedex Healthcare Series & CareNotes has been limited to building use only in the College of Nursing, Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Shiffman Medical Library at Rackham and Scott Hall, and cannot be reached from remote locations off-campus.

Micromedex includes:

  • Disease Information- Evidence-based, relevant information on disease states, treatment guidelines, and standards of care
  • Drug Briefs – Bulleted briefs which include summaries on a variety of topics like trade names, dosing, indications, contradictions, monitoring, and drug interactions
  • IV Compatibility – 600 unique drugs and solutions search individual drugs
  • Drug Identification – Identifies drugs that patients bring to the hospitals by color, shape, and imprint codes
  • Drug Interactions – 9 types of interactions which includes 8000 unique drug terms that are drug-specific rather than class-specific
  • Patient education documents – Easy-to-understand materials to help educate patients about their health condition and encourage their participation in care
