Need help looking for a book? Map it!

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

The Wayne State Library System recently launched a library mapping application, designed to map all materials held in the Undergraduate Library, Science and Engineering Library and the Purdy/Kresge Library. The system works within the catalog to show the location of materials, as well as provides some simple web forms for “How do I find?” reference requests. Patrons can do more than just locate a book on a shelf—they can also find out where reserves are held, learn how to access closed collections, or get driving maps for extension center libraries.

When searching the traditional catalog, click the “Floor Map” icon on the right side.

When searching in Encore, click the “Explore” button to reach the “Floor Map” icon.

Developed in-house with open-source technology, the development was low cost, and requires minimal effort to maintain using a unique call number range overlay system.

Let us get your books from the shelf for you. Try the “Get it!” button!

Stop by the UGL atrium during the entire month of March to check out our newest exhibit celebrating Women’s History Month. The interactive display focuses on Wayne State University’s long history of educating and empowering women in the campus community, with photos and information about historical Women of Wayne from medical, law, business and social backgrounds. All of the photos were taken from the Virtual Motor City Project, part of the Detroit News Collection, a premier photojournalistic collection held at the Walter P. Reuther Library. The University Library System hosts a digital portion of the collection, which can be accessed here:
